Today isn’t only World Environment Day, it also marks the five-year anniversary of NextWave Plastics.
Prevented Ocean Plastic is a proud member of NextWave– a member-led, collaborative and open-source initiative of leading multinational companies working to keep plastic in the economy and out of the ocean. To date, NextWave members have collectively diverted more than 20,000 metric tonnes of plastic — the equivalent of 2.27 billion single-use plastic water bottles — from entering the waste stream, over 80% of its goal of diverting 25,000 metric tonnes by 2025.
To celebrate their milestone, NextWave have produced a video outlining their mission and their aims for the future. The feature also includes some voiceover work from Prevented Ocean Plastic Sustainability Lead, Claire Sammons-Evans.
NextWave also took their anniversary as an opportunity to announce a new partnership with current Prevented Ocean Plastic supporters, The Circulate Initiative. Michael Sadowski, Executive Director at The Circulate Initiative, said “We are thrilled to collaborate with … this innovative group of brands on this vital work, and are enthusiastic to advance NextWave’s goals and continue to raise awareness about the value of investing in ocean-bound plastic supply chains amongst business leaders.”
The connections don’t end there. Later this month, Bantam Materials Director Vytas Gruodis will speak alongside other NextWave members at the AMI Ocean Plastic Conference in Houston, Texas. Over two days at the conference, speakers will discuss the latest industry developments, such as sourcing materials, new technology solutions, traceability and certification, innovative applications, offsetting, and plastic credits, and much more. In-person and online passes are available.
Prevented Ocean Plastic is a proud member of NextWave Plastics this year and for many years to come!
