Saracens and England Rugby Captain Marlie Packer travelled to Camberley Rugby Club at the weekend to share tips on proper preparation, triumph over adversity, and tackling ocean plastic pollution.
Marlie teamed up with Prevented Ocean Plastic last year, and she’s been championing better plastic choices ever since.
At Camberley, the Red Roses vice captain introduced the Prevented Ocean Plastic programme to the women’s team and handed out her own personalised version of the POP refillable bottle. Each bottle features a design of Marlie’s signature and a unique QR code that links to a special message from her, encouraging fans to make more responsible plastic choices.
In Marlie’s own words, “It was great to be able to share my experiences and help create awareness around making better plastic choices. If we could all make one small change in our day to day lives, the impact would be massive”.
One Camberley attendee said, “It was great to have Marlie come down… to talk about better choices when it comes to plastic. We all know about recycling but… having to think about it a little bit more will improve everything for the planet moving forward.
To have a Red Rose come down in person is just fantastic for the girls and for the club.”
Marlie’s preparation for this summer’s World Cup is now underway, but her work as a Prevented Ocean Plastic ambassador continues — helping to carry the message of better choices into local communities and clubhouses across the UK.
