Prevented Ocean Plastic™ were so proud to be a part of the fourth annual Marie Claire Sustainability Awards last week.
Lush were winners of the Ocean Friendly award for their switch to Prevented Ocean Plastic™ material. In Marie Claire’s words, “Lush has long been a champion for cruelty-free, Fairtrade, freshly made and even naked (aka limited packaging) beauty, (and) This year, Lush became the first global cosmetics brand to switch to Prevented Ocean Plastic™, which is certified as recycled from plastic waste collected within 50km of anocean, coastline or major waterway”.

The Prevented Ocean Plastic™ logo is already visible on bottles in Lush’s UK stores and the brand is working to roll out the initiative globally. In the UK, working with its supplier Spectra Packaging, Lush has introduced certified recycled Prevented Ocean Plastic™ for its 100ml, 250ml, and 500ml bottles. The Lush Manufacturing sites in Germany and Croatia have also rolled out Prevented Ocean Plastic™ across these sizes, while Lush North America and Japan will follow suit later this year.
Lush also claimed the Marie Claire award for Cruelty-Free Brand in the Skincare: Face & Body category, while Prevented Ocean Plastic™ partner brand NEO WTR was highly commended in the Drink Brand category.
The awards, a celebration of the brands, organisations, and products that are genuinely implementing change and building a better tomorrow, were judged by The Marie Claire UK team alongside over 50 global experts, thought leaders, business founders and activists in sustainability.
Prevented Ocean Plastic™ has history in these awards too. Hum Nutrition won in the Ocean Friendly category in 2021. The first supplement company to transition its bottle packaging to 100% Prevented Ocean Plastic™, the brand estimated that its initiative would prevent the equivalent of six million water bottles from entering the ocean in the first year alone.
