Prevented Ocean Plastic sets new impact record

By March 14, 2025March 21st, 2025No Comments

The Prevented Ocean Plastic Programme has achieved a major milestone, setting a new record for financial impact for recycling infrastructure and coastal communities at risk of ocean plastic pollution by sending over $1 million through its supply chain in a single week.

This success is part of another record of impact set by Bantam Materials UK Ltd, the supplier of Prevented Ocean Plastic.

Established in 2011, Bantam Material UK Ltd. has grown to the level where it now sends over $100,000 per day to recycling infrastructure in developing communities. To first collectors this means a consistent and reliable option to earn money in places where there are little or no social benefit safety nets to keep families fed and safe. To factory owners this means avoiding predatory lending practices in developing countries where even standard loans can be charged at 20-40% interest or more. As a result collectors are continuously earning income and plastic is continuously being prevented from entering the ocean, cluttering beaches and streets.

Bantam has sent over $250,000,000 to developing communities since it was established, preventing plastic from reaching the ocean.

This record-setting week highlights Bantam’s ongoing work and Prevented Ocean Plastic’s commitment to tackling the global plastic waste crisis while simultaneously supporting sustainable development.

By investing over $100,000 per day in the collection and recycling of plastic, Bantam continues to drive the creation of a circular economy that not only reduces plastic pollution but also creates economic opportunities in communities that need it most. Bantam’s unique for-profit business model ensures that operations can be scaled while achieving positive environmental and social outcomes, and meeting product quality standards in continuous high volumes. .

Prevented Ocean Plastic continues to lead the way in solving the problems of the plastic recycling industry. This record-breaking week underscores a pivotal role in creating a sustainable future for both people and the planet.
