On Earth Day 2024, Prevented Ocean Plastic™ ambassador Sarah Jackson was invited to Sky News to talk about pollution and better plastic choices.
Earlier this morning, world champion windsurfer, ocean advocate, and Prevented Ocean Plastic™ ambassador Sarah appeared opposite award-winning journalist Kay Burley. Sarah talked about her experiences on the water around the world, the direct impact of ocean plastic pollution on her sport, and the danger of sewage in UK seas.

The challenging theme of this year’s Earth Day is ‘Planet vs Plastics’. The organisation call for a 60% reduction of plastic production by 2040 and advocates for widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics, a rapid phase out all single use plastics, and a strong UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution.
A world without single-use plastics is a vital aim. But plastics are such an integral part of all of our daily lives, it’s going to take time to get there. In the meantime there is a better plastic choice. Prevented Ocean Plastic™ is traceable, fully certified recycled plastic that has been collected from coastal areas at risk of ocean plastic pollution.
As well as diverting plastic away from our oceans, the Prevented Ocean Plastic™ Programme builds recycling infrastructure, elevates industry standards, and supports bottle collectors, collection centres and local recyclers in developing areas where no formal waste collection exists.
In Sarah’s words, “When it comes to plastic we can have an impact and it’s all about trying to make better choices. The choice to reduce plastic consumption where you can, or, if it’s not possible, choosing recycled and recyclable options, such as products containing Prevented Ocean Plastic™. These are exactly the types of initiatives we need to support.”
We’re so proud of Sarah for sharing her experiences on Sky News on Earth Day 2024.
