Prevented Ocean Plastic™ is proud to be commended by the UK Packaging Awards.
Our initiative was a finalist in three categories at the awards ceremony last week- Investment Project of the Year, Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year, and Woman of the Year!
We were highly commended for Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year. Our submission celebrated our 25 by 2025 mission to open 25 collection centres by the end of 2025, bringing plastic waste management infrastructure to places that need it most. We recently opened our ninth collection centre in Samarinda, a build sponsored by Danone, that is expected to process 500 tonnes of plastic waste per month and provide 90 direct jobs to local people.

POP Programme Lead, Maxine van Bommel, was also highly commended as a Woman of the Year at the event. Maxine is the Research & Programme Lead at Prevented Ocean Plastic™. She is a mixed methods researcher with a background in cultural anthropology and human rights. She has over a decade of experience working in research across a wide range of themes, such as healthcare, human rights and social issues. She has always been passionate about the environment and sustainability, leading her to undertake a PhD in Sustainability at the Global Sustainability Institute in Cambridge, alongside her work at Prevented Ocean Plastic.
Held at the iconic Grosvenor House in London, this was the 19th edition of the UK Packaging Awards, an evening that aims to bring together packaging experts to celebrate progress, showcase innovation, and foster invaluable connections. The judges of the awards are hand-picked for their expertise and industry knowledge.
